Who we are
 

Troop 27 is located in San Mateo, California in the Redwood District of the Pacific Skyline Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The Troop meets every Tuesday at 7:30 pm at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church at the corner of 36th and Hacienda, one block south of Hillsdale Avenue in San Mateo (see map).

All boys aged 11 through 17 are welcome to come and see what we are about. We offer every boy who comes into our troop the chance to have fun while learning skills and responsibilities that will last a lifetime. Our objective is that every scout leaving our troop feels he has had a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Facts about the troop:

  • Established in 1951 (click here to see the history of the troop)
  • We serve the cities of Belmont, Burlingame, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Hillsboro, Millbrae, Redwood City, San Carlos, and San Mateo.
  • It is a boy-led troop where boys learn leadership under the guidance of trained adult leaders
  • Consistently achieves the BSA Quality Unit status
  • Troop activities:
    • a troop meeting each Tuesday
    • an overnight activity each month
    • a week-long summer camp, built from scratch on a high Sierra lake, is the highlight of the year. The scouts learn new skills and sharpen old ones, participating in fun patrol competitions. Each evening ends with a great campfire with skits, songs and stargazing.
    • canoeing - the troop owns about a dozen canoes and is very active in water sports.
    • an all-night new years eve video game party
  • Community services
    • Scouting for Food - contributing food to local food banks during the holidays
    • Litter clean up at the Vista Point on I-280
    • Flag placing at Skylawn Memorial Park on Memorial Day
    • Assist with the Samaritan house during the holidays
    • Help with the Interfaith Hospitality Network, a program to assist homeless families, when they are hosted by our chartering organization.
    • A variety of Eagle projects serving a number of organizations.
