Camps Historic Trail Outing

November 10-11, 2012

Note that because this is Veterans’ Day weekend many schools have a holiday break on the following Monday.

Summary

The 12.4-mile Pacific Skyline Council’s Camps Historic Trail is in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains and passes through three locations where the council has established camps. There will be a barbeque lunch at the end of the outing. Those who successfully complete the hike qualify to receive an award (see pricing).

Details

Scout leaders have elected to:

  • Begin on Saturday morning and end on Sunday afternoon.
  • Hike in the downhill direction from Cutter Scout Reservation to Memorial County Park for a net elevation drop of 1,730 feet from start to finish (approximate trail profile).
  • Make this a 2-day backpacking trip instead of a 1-day hike. Note that the Tarwater Trail Camp is not accessible by car. It includes pit toilets and trash cans.

Participants will need to prepare appropriately for a backpacking outing, including bringing food for lunch, dinner and breakfast (backpacking food reference). We will filter water and hot water will be prepared during dinner and breakfast.
