Troop 27 underwent their annual Summer Camp at Loon Lake, a beautiful boat-in location where older scouts had constructed a camp fit with a kitchen, trails, and campsites, ready for a week of fun! Scouts arrived on Saturday, setting up camp, and having fun at Special Operations the next day, an event where Scouts would have fun and compete in events like knife throwing, knot tying, and even an obstacle course race! Throughout the week, Scouts would enjoy amazing gourmet food cooked up by the kitchen staff, with new meals every day, including tri-tip, stews, salads, an assortment of lunch items such as tamales, sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs, as well as a new dessert every night! On Monday, Scouts would test their physical strength at Kajabe Can Can, and on Tuesday, Scouts would compete in Paul Bunyan, an event focusing on wood skills, with events such as tomahawk throwing, match split, one- and two-man saw, and log chopping! Scouts would also work on their ranks and merit badges throughout the week, with the troop offering numerous merit badges including Swimming, Canoeing, Forestry, Communication, Orienteering, Lifesaving, and many more! On Wednesday, the troop went on a beautiful five-mile hike around the Loon Lake area, learning orienteering skills and having a fun swim call. The next day, the troop focused on their water skills at Waterfront Day, competing in events such as swimming races and relays, various canoe races, and other exciting water-based events. Scouts would see the camp’s closing ceremony on Friday night, and would leave for home on Saturday with amazing memories and experiences!
