Klondike 2017

klondike2015The Klondike snow camping outing this year promises more fun than ever! Klondike is scheduled for January 28th and 29th.

Jan. 10 is the last day to pay for Klondike at the lower rate (Klondike Derby, Jan 28-29, $30 by Jan. 10 – $40 by Jan. 17) Why not sign up and pay early?

The meetings in January are mandatory if you/your scout are going on Klondike.  This outing requires safety instruction and planning!

For your safety and comfort there will be a pack check before Klondike.  When you have passed the pack check, we will keep and store your pack until that weekend.

Scouting for Food

img_8965On Saturday, Nov. 19 Troop 27 continued our pre Thanksgiving holiday tradition of collecting food donations with the Scouting for Food program.

We meet at Marlin Park in Redwood Shores at 8:30AM. A little rain during the morning but rain would never slow down troop 27!

We collected 1,941 pounds of food and delivered to the Second Harvest Food Bank in San Carlos. We had 19 scouts there to help, so that was just over 100 pounds of food for each scout that attended! We didn’t beat the Record but there is always next year.
img_0178Today we also received $160 in cash donations so before our Scoutmaster Mr. Ammenti and the driving team went to the Food Bank, they stopped by the dollar store and picked up about 200 cans of food! Thanks to all the Scouts, ASM’s, Drivers and parents that helped with Scouting for food today!

August Canoeing!

20160821_084731Scouts, ASMs and several parents had a fantastic time canoeing up Elkhorn Slough on Saturday. The timing with the tides was perfect. Many otters were spotted swimming close to, underneath, and around the canoes. Thrills for all!

A big thanks to “Trail Boss” Scott Kaiser!!! Also a Huge thanks to Matt Roseman, Dr. Horn, Mr. Frydenlund and Pat Terman for Towing and Leading the Elkhorn Slough canoeing section of outing.

Summer Camp 2016 Rocked!

IMG_0794Again this summer our troop continued its unique, 50-plus-year tradition of building its own week long summer camp at a lake in the high Sierra. This year it was Loon Lake in the El Dorado National Forest.

13 scouts started off camp working on and achieving their Canoeing and Swimming Merit Badges.

On Wednesday the scouts got to do the troop’s traditional 5-mile troop hike including a great foil pouch dinner cooked on coals.

Many more skills were offered from the troop’s dedicated ASM and core and scout leadership core including Camping, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Science, Lifesaving, Nature, Orienteering, and – of course – Swimming and Canoeing.

Again this year there were patrol contests, wood chopping and the two-man saw, Kajabe Can-Can, Two Ball and the very popular White Bomb!

All in, an incredible time for the troop!

June Canoe Trip

IMG_7640The annual June canoe trip outing was fantastic success. Fifteen scouts went on the outing together at Coyote Lake Reservoir in Gilroy. We also had five parent ASMs join the fun on the trip in addition to driving and towing 12 of the troops 18 canoes. The trip gave many of our newer scouts a chance to get a head start on their canoeing skills for summer camp.
