2024 Wurr Flats

In the middle of December, Troop 27 went to Wurr flats for a weekend outing before the holiday break. We had a pretty relaxed outing because it rained for most of the trip. The weather did however provide some new opportunities for the troop to practice camping in the rain. We learned how to rain-proof tents and gear and we also learned what happens when you don’t. We also had a lot of time to practice our wood-tools skills and we chopped and processed a lot of wood to keep a warm fire burning even in the rain. Even though we got rained on a lot, the scouts had a great time chopping wood and learning how to deal with less than ideal weather conditions.

2024 Castle Rock Backpacking

On the weekend before Thanksgiving, Troop 27 took a short backpacking trip at Castle Rock. Backpacking is a skill some scouts were looking to improve upon so we started with a three mile backpacking trip to a campsite. Scouts carried all the gear they would need for the trip on their backs, this included stoves, water, and tents. On the first day after we set up camp the scouts practiced filtering water and they practiced their first aid skills in a hiking accident scenario. On the second day we began on our hike back along the edge of a mountain which provided amazing views of the hills and the clouds. Troop 27 had a great time backpacking and learning new skills during the outing.
